PRESIDENT INAUGURATES DWIKORA, TRIKORA MONUMENTS

Jakarta, Feb. 26 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono inaugurated Dwikora and Trikora monuments at the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters at Cilangkap, here on Thursday.

The head of state marked the monuments' inauguration by pressing a button to open the monuments' veils and signed the two monuments' plaques.
In the inauguration ceremony, the President was accompanied by Vice President M Jusuf Kalla, TNI Chief General Djoko Santoso and Jakarta Vice Governor Prijanto.
The two monuments are open to the public from 9 am to 3 pm daily.
TNI Commander General Djoko Santoso said that the monuments were dedicated by the younger generation to the nation's heroes who had fought for the interests of the Indonesian state and nation.
The monuments should become educative means for the TNI soldiers as well as the younger generation in general, he said.
Trikora or the Three People's Commands were launched by the late President Soekarno on December 19, 1961 among other things, to raise the Indonesian flag in West Irian (Papua).
Dwikora or the People's Dual Command called for the strengthening of the defense of the Revolution during the Soekarno era, and supporting the struggle to liberate the peoples of Malaya, Singapore and Borneo.
