B'desh will resolve situation amicably: India on BDR mutiny
New Delhi, Feb 26 (PTI) India Thursday expressed
confidence that the Bangladesh government would resolve
amicably the situation arising out of mutiny by Bangladesh
Rifles (BDR).
"This is an internal matter for Bangladesh," India's
External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said here.
"We are confident that they will resolve the situation
amicably," he said on the rebellion by BDR men who stormed the
BDR headquarters yesterday and laid siege for 11 hours,
killing several officers and other personnel.
On the situation on the Indo-Bangla border, the spokesman
said, "the area is safe and secure."
Prakash also refused to comment on Pakistan Supreme
Court's judgement barring former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
from contesting elections and describing his brother and
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif's election as null and
void.
"The matter is entirely internal to Pakistan and we have
no comments to offer," the MEA spokesman said in response
to questions.
