Ambassadors Of EU Member States Admire Rainbow Village

SEMARANG, C Java, Jan 25 (Antara) - Ambassadors of several European Union member states expressed admiration to Rainbow Village, a neighborhood with houses being colorfully painted that has become a new tourism attraction in Semarang, Central Java, during a visit on Wednesday. European Union Ambassador for Indonesia Vincent Guerend led the visit, which was participated in by diplomats from 12 EU member countries, including Austrian Ambassador Helene Steinhäusl, Belgium Ambassador Patrick Herman, Croatian Ambassador Drazen Margeta, Denmark Ambassador Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Germany Ambassador Michael Freiherr von Ungern-Sternberg, Greek Ambassador Georgios Dogoritis, Ireland Ambassador Kyle O'Sullivan and Italian Ambassador Vittorio Sandalli. The local residents expressed warm welcome to the ambassadors who enjoyed seeing the colorful village ranging from red to yellow, blue, and green. European Union Ambassador for Indonesia Vincent Guerend expressed his admiration for the Kampung Pelangi (Rainbow Village). The village showcases its magnificent colors, which together, look like a real-life rainbow. The EU, he said, has many programs to facilitate exchange of experiences with cities in Indonesia, such as Semarang and Makassar. The ambassadors conducted a two-day visit in Semarang, Central Java, from January 24-25, 2018 in an effort to encourage potential cooperation in various sectors. The ambassadors earlier held a meeting with Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and Semarang Mayor Hendrar Prihadi. Rainbow Village known locally as Kampung Pelangi was once considered a slum, but this colourful makeover has transformed it into a clean and lovely place to live. The town has become one of the hottest instagram destinations in Indonesia.
