Muharraq city welcomes visitors

Manama, Jan. 30 (BNA): Muharraq has received visitors from all over the Islamic World, as part of the celebrations of the city as the « Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 ». The inaugural event of the «Muharraq as Capital of Islamic Culture 2018» was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad in Isa Al Khalifa, and attended on his behalf by the Deputy Premier, HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Muarak Al Khalifa, at the special events tent near Arad Fort on January 28.  Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) Director-General, Dr. Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, also attended the opening ceremony. On January 29, the Arab and international delegations visited part of the Pearl Trail, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the Shaikh Ibrahim Centre for Culture and Research. They then moved to Qal'at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Fort) sites, where they watched the "Sound and Light" show which tells the story of the site dating back to Dilmun civilisation.  They were also informed about the events to be hosted by the Bahrain National Museum as part of the « Muharraq Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 », including the « Art in the Islamic Civilisation », the Arabic calligraphy exhibition, « Between Muharraq and Seville: A Bolza - Bussad Dialogue » The two-day programme also featured musical shows, including Bahraini folklore songs and Andalusian Muwashshah (stanzas).
