GOVT TO FORM COORDINATION TEAM TO SUPPORT ELECTIONS
Jakarta, Feb 27 (ANTARA) - The government will form a coordination team at central and provincial levels to help ensure the smooth implementation of the general elections, a spokesman said.
Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto said here on Friday the team would be set up in accordance with Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No 4/2009 which aimed to support the smooth execution of electoral processes and enabled the central and regional governments to form coordination teams.
In article 2, section 1, of the Presidential Regulation it was said that the central and regional governments should support the smoothness of elections in relation with four things, namely the familiarization of regulations on the elections, support for the smooth dispatch of election logistics, monitoring of the smoothness of the elections themselves, and other activities related to the electoral processes.
"These four things will become the guideline for the coordination team to support the smoothness of the elections," the minister said.
He said to support the smoothness of the electoral processes, the coordination team would be responsible for monitoring the elections, and whenever a problem arises, the team would formulate a way out.
In the familiarization of election, a concrete example of support to be given by the central and regional governments was the displaying of banners containing information oc the 2009 elections.
