IT-BASED EDUCATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BEING INTRODUCED IN ACEH
Banda Aceh, Feb 27 (ANTARA) - The Central Aceh District administration has begun a program to introduce an Information Technology-based Education Management and Information System (EMIS) to 40 elementary schools in the district.
Speaking at a function to launch the USAID (United States Agency for International Development)-assisted program on Friday, Central Aceh District Chief Nasaruddin said the system was expected to improve the quality of local school education.
More interestingly, he said, the program in Central Aceh was intended to serve as a pilot project to strengthen the information system of education management in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province.
Therefore, Nasaruddin expressed hope that the new system would continue to be introduced to many more schools in Central Aceh district.
He said the decision to make Central Aceh the basis of the EMIS piolot project was taken in consideration of the district administration's concern for the improvement of education quality which in fact had been declared as one of its missions.
Meanwhile, Tita Rahmaniah, the resource person on the EMIS, said the system was a combination between human recourses development and the application of information technology in selecting, saving, managing, and recollecting data to support decision-making in the education field.
She said the first stage of the EMIS' use consisted of development of school data applications, and development of school supervisor data management applications.
With the application of communication technology, it was hoped every school in Central Aceh could send and save its data by using information and communication technology (ICT).
She said teachers in the Gayo highlands in Central Aceh so far were sending their data with flash disks and then by internet but this method was prone to virus attacks.
Therefore, she said, the best method to send data was by internet but the problem was that it required all schools in the district to have electricity.
The one-day discussion on EMIS was participated in by 40 school principals, the head of Central Aceh's education office, the head of the local religious affairs office, and a number of local councilors.
