Kia Motors posts sharp sales increase in Africa, Middle East
SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's No.2 automaker, said Saturday it saw its sales in Africa and the Middle East jump this year despite the worsening economic slowdown.
The affiliate of the country's leading automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said its sales
in Africa soared 84 percent from a year earlier to 5,446 units in January.
During the same period, sales in the oil-rich Middle Eastern region gained 50.7
percent from a year ago to 6,442 units.
The automaker attributed the sharp increase in auto sales there to the fact that
the regions have not been affected as significantly by the global economic woes
as the rest of the world.
