More teams sign up for Mini Olympics

Manama, Feb. 25 (BNA): The organizing committee of the Fifth School Mini Olympics is still getting entries requests from all various government and private schools across the kingdom. Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) is organizing the fifth edition of the Mini Olympics, scheduled to run from March 8 to 22, as this year promises to see a record breaking entries after a very successful event last year. Fajer Jassim, organising committee chairwoman, said the committee has already completed all arrangements ahead of the Mini Olympics kick off. She added that the schedule with the timetable of all 14 sports championships have been prepared, in addition to the venues of these competitions. "The School Mini Olympics is one of those special initiatives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and has positive impact on sports development in the kingdom," said Fajer. "We look at this event as a major contributor to expand Olympism through school sports, which gives us more responsibilities in order to pull off a very successful School Mini Olympics," added Fajer. She noted that with the countdown has already started, all standing committees have been working hard to complete all preparations in time for the start of this year’s gathering. The Fifth School Mini Olympics is brought up in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with more than 2,000 students from government and private schools are taking part. Fourteen sports in total have been confirmed this year, including football, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball and handball. The remaining activities are table tennis, athletics cricket, hockey, swimming, water sports, gymnastics, taekwondo, jiu jitsu and karting.
