Bahrain's initiatives to achieve sustainable development goals highlighted

Manama, Feb. 28 (BNA): In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Erik Solheim pointed out Bahrain's large number of initiatives designed to achieve sustainable development goals supported by a stimulating economic climate attractive to investment. Solheim said his visit to Bahrain targets boosting cooperation in the fields of environment and sustainable energy, in addition to strengthening the UNEP role in West Asia. He lauded Bahrain’s support for the UNEP programmes for preserving the environment at the regional and global level, noting the environmental challenges faced by the world, including environmental pollution, global warming and the transformation into renewable energy systems and the use of electric vehicles. He called for the use of eco-friendly applications to invigorate the economic sector, the engine of growth. He attached great significance to the water security file, which plays an important role in maintaining sustainable development, stressing the need to find solutions to ensure the sustainability of water resources to meet global population growth.
