MINISTER: UNEMPLOYMENT ENTIRE NATION'S PROBLEM
Bandung, Feb 28 (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Erman Suparno said the high unemployment rate in the country was the entire nation's problem whose solution needed to be found through relentless efforts.
"We must all be aware that unemployment is a problem that should not be used as a political commodity," he said when opening a job expo.
He said the problem must be dealt with together and the participation of all elements of the community.
"No matter who governs, if the problem is not dealt with systemicaly, all other efforts will be in vain ," he said.
On the occasion the minister also called on the people not to let their brothers or sisters seek jobs abroad en masse. "If that is the case it means they are not building their country but other countries," he said.
The minister also called for further development of vocational training centers in the country to promote workers' skills for further employment.
The expo, attended by tens of companies and education and training institutes, was intended for overcoming empiric manpower conditions in West Java, the governor of the region, Ahmad Heryawan, said on the occasion.
According to the statistics, the population of West Java now reaches 41 millions and 1.2 millions of them are unemployed. "This fact is coverning," the governor said.
