RI'S FOREIGN MINISTER CAN UNDERSTAND CAMBODIAN, MYANMAR OBJECTIONS
Hua Hin, Feb 28 (ANTARA) - Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda could understand the objection of Cambodian and Myanmarese governments on electoral procedures of Civil Society representatives in the 14th ASEAN Summit in Hua Hin, about 200 km South of Bangkok, Thailand.
"It is true that Cambodia tendered their objection to the procedure on the appointment of representatives of Civil Society of a certain country. It's quite logic," he said after accompanying President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who received Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien-Loong at Grand Hyatt Hotel, here, on Saturday.
The minister said Cambodian government complained about it because the country concerned was not involved in appointing representatives of civil society group who will have dialogue with heads of states/governments of ASEAN.
"Considering that it is the first time for representatives of civil society to have a chance for dialogue with the head of states grouped in ASEAN, perhaps the appointment was conducted by the host and secretary general of ASEAN. The countries where members of the civil society come from is not involved," he said.
Wirajuda said thet even the lists of civil society's representatives have been handed over in the past, perhaps it could not be socialized well.
However, the minister saw that the rejection of Cambodian and Myanmarese government will not be a bad precedence for ASEAN on the ground that the meeting between the heads of states/government grouped in ASEAN and representatives of civil society is the first on the agenda.
