Bangladesh competent to handle situation, says Pranab
Kolkata, Mar 1 (PTI) Seeking to dispel the security
concerns arising out of the mutiny in the Bangladesh Rifles
(BDR), India's External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee
Sunday said the Bangladesh Government was competent to handle
the situation in wake of the revolt.
"We want development and stability in all our
neighbouring countries. Especially, I wish success to the
newly constituted government in Bangladesh," Mukherjee said
after inaugurating a seminar at Jadavpur University here.
Asked about the reports suggesting ISI's hand in the
mutiny, Mukherjee said, "It is the internal matter of
Bangladesh. They are competent to handle the situation."
At least 73 army officers and four civilians were
killed in the two-day revolt by the BDR, which guards the
international border of Bangladesh, including that with India.
Mukherjee once again reiterated India's demand that
Pakistan must dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in its
soil and bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks
to justice.
"We have stated that Pakistan is committed both
bilaterally and internationally to fight terrorism and to
bring the perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai to
book," the minister said. PTI AMR
