S. Korea eyes export of helicopter parts to Boeing
SEOUL, March 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's government trade agency said Monday it
is looking to sell military helicopter parts to Boeing Co., one of the biggest
defense contractors in the United States.
For potential deals, the Korea Trade and Investment Promotion Agency invited
Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems unit to export negotiations this week in
South Korea, the agency said in a statement.
South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy, which oversees the nation's airline
industry, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, a military
procurement agency, have joined the negotiations, it said.
"The negotiations are aimed at promoting exports of Korean-made helicopter parts
to the U.S.," said Cho Hwan-eik, head of the South Korean trade agency, in the
statement.
Since 2003, the South Korean government has spent billions of dollars on its plan
to develop advanced military helicopters, code-named KMH for Korea Multirole
Helicopter.
