Bahrain attends CND session in Vienna

Vienna, Mar. 12 (BNA): The Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence director-general attended the 61st session of United Nations (UN) Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), which opened today in Vienna, Austria.
Addressing the session, he conveyed greetings from Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa, stressing the importance of the meeting to strengthen international security cooperation to combat drugs. He stressed the need to set realistic solutions, support and modernize national strategies to combat the scourge of drug trafficking and confront the fast emergence of Synthetic drugs and psychotropic substances. He underlined the existence of a discrepancy between national legislations which led to a rise in drug trafficking attempts, stressing the need to work hand in hand to combat gangs which are seeking undermine to human and economic resources.
The Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence director-general highlighted the solid link between the drug trafficking revenues and terrorist groups. He described drug trafficking as a dual tool in the hands of those who seek to target countries’ human and economic pillars and jeopardize its future development and progress. He shed light on the national strategy to combat drugs and psychotropic substances, which launched on June 25, 2015, marking the (UN) International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The Criminal Investigation and Forensic Evidence director-general opened Bahrain’s pavilion in the exhibition, being held on the sidelines of the 61st CND session.
