PRESIDENT TO HAND OVER DIRECT ASSISTANCE IN LAMPUNG

Bandarlampung, March 2 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to hand over a direct assistance in the framework of the National Program for People Empowerment (BLM PNPM) during his visit here to open a meeting of an Islamic organization on Thursday, a regional government spokesman said.
"Besides to open a Muhammadiyah executive board meeting, the president is also scheduled to provide Rp366.765 billion in direct BLM PNPM assistance for Lampung province," Lampung Regional Government spokesman Adeham said here on Monday.
Adeham, who is head of Lampung's Information and Communication Services, said that the fund would symbolically be channeled one day before the president opened a meeting of Muhammadiyah's executive board, the country's second largest Islamic organization.
The president will open the meeting on Thursday.
Adeham said that the PNPM assistance consisted of Rp24.965 for urban assistance, Rp220.3 billion for rural areas, Rp15.75 billion for least developed and special villages and Rp105.75 billion for village infrastructure development.
He said that the local government was also proposing to the state secretariat the inauguration by the president of two road sections, namely that lied between Way Jepara and Seputihbanyak, and that between Seputihbahnyak and Menggala.
On the Muhammadiyah meeting, Adeham said the organizing committee was making preparations for the opening by the president on Thursday.
"The organizing committee is now making preparations for the meeting and welcoming the head of state," Adeham said.
Muhammadiyah chairman for Lampung branch Nurvaif Chaniago said meanwhile that his side continued making preparations so that the event would proceed smoothly as planned.
He said that the president was expected to open the meeting, before which a 'takruf' march, which included a marching band, a 'barongsai' traditional lion dance and a decorated vehicle float, would be held.
About 4,000 participants have been registered to attend the meeting.***
