IAF gets first DG (Administration)

New Delhi, Mar 2 (PTI) The Indian Air Force (IAF) got its
first-ever Director General for Administration with the
government Monday appointing Air Marshal Naresh Verma to the
newly-created post.

An IAF spokesperson said here that Air Marshal Verma took
charge of his new job at the Air Headquarters in Vayu Bhavan
(in the national capital) and will be looking after the land
and infrastructural development, organisation and ceremonials,
sports and adventure activities, as well as the Air Force
schools.

Hitherto, the IAF did not have any DG (Administration)
and all the duties given to the newly-appointed officer were
handled by different officers in the Air Headquarters.

The creation of the new post has enabled the IAF to have
a single window for managing its infrastructure and to take
care of administrative work related to its organisation.

Commissioned in the Administrative Branch of the IAF in
December 1972, Air Marshal Verma is an alumnus of the National
Defence Academy in Khadakvasla and National Defence College in
New Delhi.

He specialised in Aerial Imagery Interpretation at the
Air Force Intelligence School at Pune and was selected for
training in the subject at the Royal Air Force Wyton in the
United Kingdom.

During his service, Air Marshal Verma has held several
important appointments including that of Chief Administrative
Officer at Bhuj, Jamnagar, Yelahanka and New Delhi Air Force
Stations.

He was also the Principal Director of Air Force Works at
the Air Headquarters and functioned as the Senior
Officer-in-Charge of Administration at the Central Air Command
as well as Western Air Command, prior to taking over his new
appointment.

Air Marshal Verma was awarded the Vishist Seva Medal in
2001 and Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2006 for distinguished
service in the IAF. PTI
