Five suspects arrested for posting defamatory tweets

Manama, Mar. 31 (BNA): The Director General of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security has announced the arrest of five people who are suspected of being involved in setting up tendentious accounts which they used to post tweets that defame individuals, as well as incite and fuel sedition.
The arrests are in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the Kingdom, and in line with the directives of the Minister of the Interior to take strict measures to address the electronic anarchy and chaos caused by some social media accounts non-compliant with the law.
The arrestees were:
1. Abdulaziz Salah Al-Shamri (public employee)
2. Mohammed Abdulla Salem Al-Sharqawi (public employee)
3. Abdulaziz Mohammed Matar Jassim Al-Shawish (public employe)
4. Dhafer Hamad Fahd Khamis Al Zayani (unemployed)
5. Ahmed Abdulla Mohammed Khalil Al-Binkhalil (private sector employee).
The director general pointed out that the investigations had revealed that some of the suspects had set up Twitter accounts on which they posted abusive tweets, while others provided the account users with information and helped them to post them.
The suspects and the seized devices had been referred to the Public Prosecution and the investigations are still underway to arrest the other suspects involved in such cases, he added.
The director general said that they will publish the names and photographs of all those involved in such crimes that put the kingdom’s civic peace and social fabric at risk.
