SINGAPORE'S FOREIGN MINISTER ON WORKING VISIT TO MAKASSAR
Batam, Mar 3 (ANTARA) - Singaporean Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo is scheduled to be on a working visit to Makassar and Jakarta, from 3 - 5 March 2009.
In Makassar, Minister Yeo would meet Governor of South Sulawesi Syahrul Yasin Limpo, Mayor of Makassar Andi Herry Iskandar and leading local businessmen, according to a report of ChannelnewsAsia on Tuesday.
In Jakarta, Minister Yeo will call on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
Minister Yeo will also meet Trade Minister Mari Pangestu and other prominent personalities.
Minister George Yeo met Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda at the sidelines of the 14th ASEAN Summit in Cha-am, Phetchaburi, Thailand, last Feb. 26, 2009.
Minister Yeo and Minister Wirajuda at the meeting discussed bilateral issues, reaffirming the strong cooperation between Singapore and Indonesia.
In particular, the Ministers expressed satisfaction with the recent conclusion of an agreement delimiting maritime boundaries between the two countries to be signed in Jakarta on 10 March 2009.
The Ministers also agreed on the importance of ASEAN working closely together to handle the challenges posed by the current global economic downturn. They also reaffirmed the need to deepen ASEAN integration, according to information on the website of the Singapore government.
