Public Security chief meets US delegation

Manama, Apr.2 (BNA): Chief of Public Security Major-General Tariq Al Hassan has received a delegation from the US Senate. Assistant Chief of Public Security for Operations and Training Affairs also attended the meeting. He welcomed the guests for their visit to Bahrain as part of the interaction to learn about the real security situation in the country to highlight it to the US decision makers. The Chief briefed the delegation on the terrorist groups backed by Iran and the Iranian role in working against the security of Bahrain and its continuing interference in Bahrain affairs, financial and logistical support to terrorist groups and the smuggling of weapons and explosives into the Kingdom. He said the reforms introduced by the Interior Ministry went beyond the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, while some of the recommendations would continue to be carried out such as training, modernisation and administrative development. The Chief said the Interior Ministry would work to strengthen community partnership as an interactive approach between police personnel and members of society in the best interests of the nation and the people. The meeting reviewed security cooperation and issues of common interest. The delegation then saw an exhibition of some of the weapons and explosives seized from the terrorist groups which were meant to be used for targeting police personnel. (MOI)
