Semporna International Tourism Centre Set To Boost District Business Growth
SEMPORNA (Sabah, Malaysia) April 9 (Bernama) -- The development of the Semporna International Tourism Centre here is expected to enhance growth of the district as a main tourist destination with various tourism infrastructure for visitors.
The project that will be among iconic developments in Semporna will also be able to offer more job opportunities for local youths as well as help increase income of restaurant operators with the influx of tourists.
Semporna district officer, Dr Chacho Bullah, said the development of the tourism centre, would include the construction of a four or five-star hotel with between 150 and 200 rooms on a 2.2-hectare site.
He said the construction of the international tourism centre is a joint venture between a government-linked company, Warisan Harta Sdn Bhd, and Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (SAFMA).
“Semporna is a popular tourist destination due to the vast number of beautiful island resorts. Although the district receives 1,500 tourists every day, it still lacks hotel facilities.
“As such, with the presence of the tourism hub in Semporna, it will help to further promote the district’s tourism industry and residents will also benefit from the development,” Dr Chacho said when met by Bernama, here Sunday.
The tourism centre is expected to be launched by Prime Minister Najib Razak on Monday, in conjunction with a ceremony to declare Bum-Bum Island as a sub-district and the handing over of land titles.
Dr Chacho said apart from construction of the hotel, the tourism centre would also have several seafood restaurants and a jetty for tourists visiting the district.
