INDONESIA'S BIGGEST IMPORTS COME FROM ASEAN COUNTRIES
Jakarta, March 2 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's biggest non oil/gas imports in January this year came from ASEAN countries, reaching 22.90 percent to US$6.34 billion.
"The total non oil/gas imports from ASEAN reached 22.90 percent and 10.80 percent from the European Union," head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Rusman Heriawan said here on Monday.
If calculated per country, the biggest supplier of imported non oil/gas goods is China with a total value of US$1.03 billion and 19.47 percent of market shares.
Furthermore, the imports from Japan reached US$760 million with market share standing at Rp14.37 percent, while Singapore ranked third reaching over US$660 million.
In terms of the category of users, he said that the role of imports for consumer goods and capital goods in January 2009 recorded a small rise compared to corresponding month in 2008, shifting from 6.75 percen to 7.54 percent and from 16.71 percent to 20.95 percent.
In the meantime, he added the role raw materials imports declined from 75.54 percent to 71.51 percent.
The value of Indonesian imports in January 2009 declined 17.63 percent in December 2008 to US$6.34 billion.
"As a whole, the total of Indonesia's exports and imports in January also declined," he said.
