Prince Saudi Al Faisal chairs Arab Peace Council

Cairo, March 03, SPA -- Prince Saud Al Faisal, Saudi Minister of
Foreign Affairs chaired here today a meeting of Arab Peace and
Security Council at the Arab League's Headquarters.


During the meeting, they discussed the report on the activities
and performance of the Council during the previous years and
proposals for the future before submitting it to the Arab Leagues
Council at the level of Foreign Ministers to be held later day.


The meeting discussed a number of important issues in the forefront
the piracy off the Somali coast and the challenges facing the Arab
national security.


The Deputy Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Ben Helli
said in a statement today that the Arab League prepared a report
containing proposals on how to activate Arab Security and Peace
Council and provide it new powers to do its part in the protection
of Arab national security in light of the report of the Open Arab
Committee, which held more than one meeting and has developed
concepts and proposals to identify the challenges that threaten the
Arab national security and best ways to handle it.
