Arab Foreign Ministers issue final resolutions

Cairo, March 03, SPA-- The 131st Session of the Arab Foreign
Ministers, chaired by the Sudanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs
Ali Ahmed Karti concluded at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo
today.

The delegation of Saudi Arabia was chaired by Prince Saudi
Al-Faisal, the Foreign Minister. In the current session meetings, the
Arab foreign ministers prepared the draft agenda of the 21st Arab
Summit scheduled to be held in the State of Qatar on March 30th. The
draft agenda includes several basic, economic and security issues
which was forwarded to the Summit preparatory meeting at the foreign
ministers level to be held in Qatar from 27 - 28.

The Arab ministers also approved a number of suggestions and
recommendations drafted by the open-membership Arab committee at the
experts' level on protection of Arab national security. The
suggestions included the challenges facing Arab national security,
and activation and expansion of the Arab Peace and Security Council
to play its role in protection of the Arab peace and security.


As regards the Arab peace initiative, the role of its committee and
the importance of its continued movement according to the movement
plan and the political framework have been stressed. Arab abidance by
the Arab peace initiative as basis to settlement of the Arab-Israeli
conflict has been also confirmed.

The meeting hailed the participation of Saudi Arabia, Egypt,
Djibouti, UAE, Oman and Yemen in the international liaison group on
confronting piracy actions and armed seizure off the Somali coasts;
promoting Arab cooperation to achieve security in the Red Sea and
Gulf of Aden; and rejection of any endeavors to internationalize the
Red Sea region.

The final statement reviewed tense issues including the Palestinian
cause and Arab-Israeli conflict, the Israeli weapons of mass
destruction and nuclear weapons, pledges of Gaza reconstruction
conference, the situation in Iraq, occupied Syrian Golan, the
international tribunal on Lebanon, the three UAE islands, the US
sanctions imposed on Syria, the Sudan dispute with the International
Court of Justice, the situation in Somalia, and the situation along
the Djibouti-Eritrean border.
