OIC Attends International Contact Group Meeting on Somalia
Jeddah, March 04, SPA -- On the invitation of the United Nations
Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS), a delegation of the General
Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) led by
Ambassador Mahdy Fathallah, the Director General for Political
Affairs participated recently in Brussels in a meeting of the
International Contact Group (ICG) on Somalia.
The meeting, hosted by the European Commission and chaired by the
Special Representative of the UN Secretary General (SRSG) for Somalia
, Ahmedou Ould Abdallah, was attended by the UN, the Organization of
the Islamic Conference, the African Union, the European Union, the
European Commission, the League of Arab States, IGAD, the Word Bank,
Canada, Belgium, Denmark, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France
, Germany, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South
Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United kingdom, the United
States and Yemen.
The meeting, which concluded its two-day deliberations on February
27, was the 14th in its series. It focused on an in-depth review of
the latest developments in the political, security and humanitarian
fields and discussed the recovery process as well as the way forward
for Somalia, according to a press release issued by the OIC here
yesterday.
