SINGAPORE INVESTOR TO CULTIVATE SIDAT FISH IN LAKE POSO
Poso, Indonesia, March 4 (ANTARA)- PT Ina International, a foreign investor from Singapore, plans to cultivate Sidat fish - a kind of eel locally called Sogili - in Lake Poso , Central Sulawesi using keramba (underwater cages), a company executive said.
"We will use the keramba system because this is the fastest way to raise the small-scale fishermen's standards of living. All of the fish products will be exported," Nevita Anastasia, general manager of Jakarta-based PT Ina International, told ANTARA here on Wednesday.
Nevita said PT Ina International President Director Liem Tin, when visiting Tentena town two weeks ago, had expressed interest in investing in Sidat fish cultivation in Lake Poso.
Tentena which is located at the edge of LAke Poso , about 56 km south of Poso town, has great Sidat fish cultivation potentials because it is already a source of income for many locals.
In addition, Sidat fish is already being marketed in other countries , inncluding Taiwan, Hongkong, Japan, China and some European countries, Anastasia said.
In the first stage of the cultivation plan, however, Ina International would only plant about 10 Kerambas in March with the assistance of the local fisheries and marine office and its business partner in Poso.
Anastasia said Ina Internasional was also still waiting for the reopening of regular flights to and from Poso to conduct the fish cultivation on a large scale because the Sidat fish must be exported in live condition.
She said it would be risky to carry live fish by land as it could take seven hours from Tentena to Palu, capital of Central Sulawesi province, and some 24 hours from Tentena to Makassar, capital of South Sulawesi province.***
