PRESIDENT PRESENTS RP366.8 BILLION IN PNPM FUNDS TO LAMPUNG
Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, March 4 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono presented Rp366.76 billion worth of direct financial assistance under the government's National Self-reliant Community Empowerment Program (PNPM) to Lampung province on Wednesday.
The Rp366.76 billion worth of financial assistance was for 137 sub-districts in 11 districts/municipalities in the province of Lampung.
President Yudhoyono handed the assistance at a ceremony at Korpri Square in front of the Lampung governor's office here which was attended by around 5,000 people.
On the occasion the head of state also dedicated 86.5 kilometers of the the eastern trans-Sumatra highway linking Sukadana, Seputih, Banyak and Menggala which were built at a total cost of Rp312 billion. He also presented 4,000 daily necessary packages to a deputation of poor people in Lampung.
In addition, the president witnessed the symbolic presentation of Small-holder's Business Credits (KURs) by a number of banks to local micro enterprises.
The KURs were presented by among others Bank BNI totaling Rp98.5 billion to 674 debtors, Bank Mandiri Rp73.37 billion to 7,605 debtors, Bank BRI Rp136.37 billion to 28,589 debtors, Bank Bukopin Rp12.17 billion to 153 debtors, and Bank Syariah Mandiri Rp7.699 billion to 167 debtors.
President Yudhoyono on the occasion was accompanied by Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Culture and Tourism Minister Jero Wacik, Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Rajasa, and Lampung Governor Syamsurya Ryakudu.
On February 18, 2009, President Yudhoyono also handed Rp1.4 trillion worth of direct financial assistance under the PNPM to east Java in Tuban district.
The financial assistance was presented to East Java Governor Soekarwo, along with various assistance packages for local farmers and poor people at a ceremony at Tuban's town square.
On the occasion the head of state also witnessed the symbolic presentation of KURs by six state-owned banks to local micro businesses, and dedicated six infrastructure projects in East Java.
