PRESIDENT TO ATTEND G-20 MEETING IN LONDON
Bandar Lampung, March 4 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said he would attend the meeting of the Group of Twenty (G-20) in London later this month.
"I will leave later this month to attend, for one day, the G-20 meeting in order to discuss with the leaders of major countries what can be done to jointly overcome the global crisis," the President said.
The head of state made the remarks when he handed over assistance under the National Self-Reliant Community Empowerment Program (PNPM) here on Wednesday.
He said that the Indonesian government would continue to follow and provide its contribution to international meetings on crisis so that it would voice the economic interest of Indonesia.
"(We want to attend the meeting ) so that we can voice Indonesia's interest, so that our economy could be managed and our people could be protected, though there are obstacles," he said.
The G-20 meeting in London will have the agenda to follow up the results of G-20 meeting in Washington in November 2008.
The Washington meeting agreed to develop a joint effort in each region on how to cope with the impact of the global crisis.
The South East Asian countries in its summit last week agreed to take the Chiang Mai Initiative and anti-protectionist policy to the London meeting.
Since 1999, the G-20 has contributed to strengthen the international financial architecture and to foster sustainable economic growth and development.
The G-20 now has a crucial role in driving forward work between advanced and emerging economies to tackle the international financial and economic crisis, restore worldwide financial stability, lead the international economic recovery and secure a sustainable future for all countries.
President was on a working visit here to present Rp366.76 billion worth of direct financial assistance under the PNPM to Lampung province.
The Rp366.76 billion worth of financial assistance was for 137 sub-districts in 11 districts/municipalities in the province of Lampung.
