Seoul's new envoy to Washington vows efforts on FTA, alliance

SEOUL, March 4 (Yonhap) -- Newly-appointed South Korean Ambassador to the United States Han Duck-soo said Wednesday he will make utmost efforts to get a pending free trade agreement (FTA) ratified by the two nations' parliaments as early as possible.

"As ambassador to the U.S., I will endeavor to help Americans better understand
the pact and win their support," Han told reporters a few days before flying to
Washington to take up the post.
Han, a former prime minister and veteran economic policy maker, emphasized that
the FTA would promote job creation, facilitate economic growth and enhance
economic transparency through the expansion of trade and investment.
Han added that he will also focus on bolstering the Seoul-Washington alliance and
coordinating a strategy to rid North Korea of its nuclear program.
