Bahrain's support to Palestinian issue stressed

New York, Apr. 27 (BNA): The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, renewed the Kingdom of Bahrain's firm position on the Palestinian issue, which affirms that a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the region will only be achieved through the two-state solution, Israel's full withdrawal from all the occupied Arab territories on 4 June 1967, the return of all Palestinian refugees to their land and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, as stated by the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy, the terms of reference of the peace process and the Arab peace initiative.
This came during a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative at the Security Council Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East on Thursday, 26 April 2018.
The Permanent Representative expressed regret over the situation in Gaza and the loss of more victims, pointing out the importance of the international community playing a greater role in implementing its decisions to bring peace in the Middle East and establishing positive conditions for the success of political settlements, including protection for the affected peoples.
In regards to the Yemeni issue, he stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is committed to its role in the Arab Coalition to support the legitimacy in Yemen in order to enable the legitimate Yemeni government to perform all its tasks, establish security and confront the coup militias that threaten the security and stability of civilians and instigates sectarian strife and the spread of terrorism.
In this context, the Permanent Representative also expressed Bahrain's condemnation of the repeated ballistic missile attacks by Iran-backed houthi militias that target the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , affirming Bahrain's solid position with Saudi Arabia and fully supports its measures to defend its territory and preserve its security and stability.
On the Syrian issue, he noted that the situation in Syria today imposes on the international community the need to promptly find a solution acceptable to the Syrian people, based on the Geneva I Statement and the UN Security Council resolution (2254), which preserves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and prevents external interference in its affairs, stressing the importance of facilitating needed assistance to those affected.
At the end of his speech, he stressed that the Kingdom of Bahrain will continue to make efforts with the international community towards achieving peace in the Middle East. (MOFA)
