King’s decision to commute death sentence welcomed by Shura

Manama, Apr.29 (BNA): Shura Council has welcomed the decision made by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to commute the death penalty of four individuals convicted in a terrorist case to a life sentence. The case involved a coordinated attempt targeting the life of Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF), Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The Council said that HM the King's decision clearly reflects the highest noble human values and the principles of tolerance and pardon that His Majesty has inherited from his fathers and forefathers, and which made Bahrain under HM a Kingdom of tolerance, coexistence and peace. The Shura also hailed the commander-in-chief’s historic positions, his courage and nobility. The Shura Council said that while it stresses that the initiative reinforces the vision of HM the King for Bahrain's highest interests, it rejects statements that ignore the condemnation of terrorism and support Iran for acts of terrorism carried out by militias affiliated with and supported by satellite militias. The Council said that it calls upon the people of Bahrain to stand together under the leadership of His Majesty the King, and to continue the process of progress and prosperity led by His Majesty on the basis of reforms and to distance themselves from all that threatens the security and stability of the country.
