Terror suspects sentenced to life, 15 years in jail

Manama, Apr. 30 (BNA): The Fourth High Criminal Court sentenced today a terror suspect to life imprisonment and fined him BD 200,000 while it handed another suspect 15 years jail term and fined him BD 100,000. The court also ruled to revoke the suspects' citizenship, Chief Prosecutor and Acting Head of the Terror Crime Prosecution Hamad Shahin announced.
The two suspects were charged with joining and funding a terrorist group, possessing and making explosives, possessing fire weapons and ammunition without authorisation from the Interior Minister and training on making and using weapons and explosive devices.
The first suspect, a wanted fugitive in Iran, was accused of recruiting individuals in Bahrain and tasking them with carrying out terrorist operations in the kingdom by targeting the security officers with explosive devices placed in their deployment locations. He was also accused of supplying the recruited elements with explosive devices and materials as well as money to implement their criminal plots.
One of the recruited elements was the second suspect who was assigned with receiving the explosive materials from many areas in Bahrain and putting them in other places to be handed over to the perpetrators of the terrorist acts. The second suspect was also charged of receiving and placing money in the same way to be handed over to the perpetrators. The first suspect also coordinated for the second one a trip to Iraq in 2017 to receive military training on making explosives and placing them to target the security officers and their vehicles.
The Public Prosecution relied in substantiating the crime on verbal and technical evidence and referred the two suspects to the Fourth High Criminal Court. The case was heard in the presence of the suspect's lawyer while ensuring all legal guarantees for them.
