Pak intruder shot dead near Attari after heavy gunfight



Attari, (Amritsar), Mar 4 (PTI) A Pakistani intruder was
shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) and another arrested
while drugs with street value of Rs 40 crore seized following
heavy exchange of fire on the Indo-Pak border near the Attari
Joint Check Post.

"A body of Pakistani intruder was found and eight kgs of
heroin worth Rs 40 crore, one automatic loaded Chinese pistol
and one loaded Pump action gun were seized from the encounter
site last night," Border Security Force Inspector General
Himmat Singh said here Wednesday.

The IG said that before the fierce encounter took
place at Mahawa village near the barbed fencing, the BSF
troops had noticed three people carrying guns and marching
towards the Indian territory.

When asked to surrender, they started indiscriminate
firing on BSF personnel. During the half an hour long
encounter nearly 200 rounds were fired from Pakistan's side.

The IG said a Pakistani intruder who was hiding in the
bushes was nabbed during a search operation launched this
morning. During interrogation he revealed his name as
Kajumudin, a resident of Karachi.

Tuesday a high alert was sounded along the Indo-Pak
Attari border immediate after the terrorist attack on the Sri
Lanka cricket team in Lahore, just 20 km from here.

The IG said that two smugglers from India had also
reached the Indo-Pak border to receive the consignments
inspite of night curfew, but they managed to flee.

He said that search operation have also been launched
on surrounding border villages to trace them.

An alert was sounded since there were apprehensions
that Lahore attackers may attempt to cross over to India as
the Pakistani city is in close proximity to Indian border,
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Indian Border security Force
(BSF) Mohhammad Aqeel said. PTI CORR
