Al-Hurr honours employees on Labour Day

Manama, May. 2 (BNA): The Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (Al-Hurr) organised a celebration to mark World Labour Day on May 1. The event was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and was attended by Labour and Social Development Minister Jamil Mohammed Humaidan. The Minister honoured employees from across the Kingdom with prizes and certificates of appreciation, including those from the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery explained how, since the company’s establishment over 30 years ago, GPIC’s key focus has continued to be on the development of its employees and in creating a prosperous and sustainable work environment. GPIC has, each and every year, ensured that the skills and competencies of its employees are honed through the numerous training courses and workshops it has sponsored, both within the company’s Academy of Leadership and Learning as well as strategic training workshops abroad. Dr. Jawahery praised GPIC’s employee team spirit which he said continued to distinguish them, strengthen their loyalty and support their dedication to work. He said the company management was also keen to provide employees a conducive social and recreational environment as part of its overall employee well-being strategy. It has organised numerous events and initiatives such as annual summer programmes and competitions for employees’ children. Dr. Jawahery emphasised that how well a company takes care of its employees can be measured and is evident in the results a company may achieve. GPIC he said, continued to excel on this front evidenced by the extensive local, regional and international awards attained by the company and its employees over the many years. He said that GPIC employees’ personal achievements, not only in their professional careers, but also in other areas such as sports, public speaking and voluntary work, are praiseworthy. Dr. Jawahery thanked the Chairman and the Board of Directors for their unlimited and continuous support that have continued to benefit the company’s employees. He also acknowledged the important role of the company’s Labour Union, under the chairmanship of Mr. Yacoub Yousef. He explained how union officials continued to build and enhance the relationship amongst employees and management to the betterment and sustainability of GPIC.
