TAUFIK HIDAYAT PASSES FIRST ROUND IN ALL ENGLAND

Birmingham, March 5 (ANTARA) - Indonesian top shuttler Taufik Hidayat beat Yu Hsin Hsien in a rubber set in the first round of Yonex All England Badminton championship here on Wednesday.
In the first set Taufik won 21-9 but he was beaten in the second set 15-21. He finally concluded the match winning 21-14 in the third set.
The All England finalist in 1999 and 2000 hoped he could win the tournament after he was absent from it in 2005 and 2007.
He was eliminated in the quarterfinals last year, beaten by Malaysian Lee Chong Wei. This year he has a chance to meet him again in the semifinal of the tournament from March 3 to 8.
Regarding Yu Hsin Hsien, Taufik said he had made him quite in trouble, moreover this was his first appearance in a tournament this year.
Other Indonesian players who appeared in the first round of the tournament were Sony Dwi Kuncoro who would meet Anand Pawar from India while Adrianti Firdasari had beaten Linda Zechri 21-12 and 21-15 in the women's singles.
Another Indonesian women's player to play that day was Zebadiah who would play against Judith Meulndijk.
The day before Indonesian men's double players Alvent Yulianto and Hendra Aprida Gunawan were defeated by He Hanbin and Sun Junjie of China in the qualification round.
Indonesian men's single Tommy Sugiarto from the National Training Center meanwhile surrendered in the first round to Malaysian Chong Wei Feng.
