Bahrain to strengthen leadership in humanitarian relief

Manama, May 4 (BNA): Bahrain Red Crescent Society’s General Secretary, Dr. Fawzi Amin partook in the 43rd General Assembly of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO) held in Baghdad.
“Bahrain is keen to strengthen its leadership in humanitarian acts in the Kingdom and abroad. Bahrain RCS has been able to establish its role as an active voice in various forums and organizations related to the relief work around the world," he said.
Dr. Fawzi spoke about the keenness of Bahrain RCS to consolidate its partnership with other Red Cross and Red Crescent societies, pointing out the Society’s active contribution in drawing up the directions of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Bahrain Red Crescent Society’s General Secretary met with a number of National Society representatives to exchange of views and experiences and discussed the adoption of initiatives to promote humanitarian communications.
On the sidelines of this major event, Bahrain Red Crescent Society organized an exhibition which highlighted its position on the map of international assistance and the role played by the Society in this field.
"The settlement of humanitarian work ... will and leadership" was the theme of the 43rd General Assembly of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization attended by members, representatives of partner organizations, the international movement constituents, international humanitarian organizations as well as regional and international observers.
The 43rd ARCO General Assembly held several sessions to adopt the agenda, elect Conference Officers and discuss reports by its Secretary General and Executive Committee. It also discussed a number of topics including ARCO’s historical encyclopedia, operational arrangements relevant to PRCS, humanitarian conditions in Palestine, Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, the situation of refugees in Arab States, as well as the provision of support to the families of staff and volunteers who fall in the line of duty.
A workshop aimed at building communication skills in the humanitarian field was also organized and focused on IM principles. The workshop allowed for an exchange of views and experiences and discussed the adoption of initiatives to promote humanitarian communications.
