YLKI: SOME SHOPPING CENTERS HAVE MELAMINE-TAINTED FOOD PRODUCTS

Jakarta, March 5 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Consumers Institute Foundation (YLKI) said some shopping areas in Jakarta had been selling good products containing melamine.

YLKI Chairman Husna Zahir said here on Wednesday there are some places through which legally and illegally imported food came into the country.
A number of places mentioned by Husni were Pasar Baru, Kelapa Gading, Cempaka Mas and Mangga Dua.
He hoped that the relevant authorities could immediately test various allegedly melamine-tainted food products in the suspected locations.
Husna also called for tight and routine supervision of food products and not only at the request of the public after finding that some foodstuff contained dangerous substances.
However, she admitted that the state institution has its limitations to conduct the tests as Indonesia is a very vast country.
"There are still many entry points for imported food products which missed the foundation's monitoring because of the country's vast area," she said.
As to protests against the announcement of YLKI findings of 10 different food products which contained melamin Husna said his side would receive inputs from various parties regarding the result of the test.
The test was aimed at freeing Indonesia from all kinds of melamine-tained food products, he said.
