Quartet slams media promoting extremism

Cairo, May8 (BNA): The Information Ministers of the anti-terror states, held a meeting today on the sidelines of the Arab Information Ministers meeting and stressed the importance of developing strategies and action plans to confront hate speech and extremism and to expose the states that sponsor, finance and harbour terrorism.
The ministers emphasised the need to confront the media outlets that promote extremist ideologies under the pretext of professionalism, saying the media must promote values of centrism, tolerance and moderation.
They expressed their rejection of the practices by some media outlets and their attempts to undermine unity among the Arab countries by promoting terrorist groups and individuals.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al Awwad, Saudi Information Minister, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chairman of the National Media Council, Ali bin Mohamed Al Rumaihi, Bahraini Minister of Information Affairs and Makram Mohammed Ahmed, Chairman of Egypt's Supreme Council for Media Regulation.
