Pak should do everything to tackle terror: Stagg
Shillong, Mar 5 (PTI) Asking Pakistan to do everything
"it can" to tackle terror, British High Commissioner to India
Richard Stagg Thursday said the attack on the Sri Lankan
cricket team in Lahore could dissuade people from visiting
Pakistan.
"It was a very very sad day for cricket. Fortunately,
there was not much casualty. Pakistan should ensure that the
perpetrators of the attack should be brought to book at the
earliest," Stagg told reporters here in India's north-eastern
state of Meghalaya Wednesday night.
Asked if it would have any impact on the future of
cricket, he said "I can't forecast anything. But of course,
the incident would create more anxiety among cricketers as
well as other people to visit the country."
Calling upon Pakistan to do everything it can to ensure
safety of visitors, Stagg said, "We believe that terrorism is
a serious threat that defies all borders. There should be
cross-border collaboration to deal with terrorism
effectively."
Asked if Pakistan has failed to tackle terror on its
soil, the British envoy said, "The repeated incidents of
terrorist strike show that Pakistan has not yet got the
problem under control. The Pakistan government is genuinely
trying to do it, but have not succeeded."
Replying to a question as to whether the response from
Pakistan to act against terror, particularly after the Mumbai
attacks, was not satisfactory, Stagg said, "I cannot compare
the response.
"We feel that all countries who face the threat of
terrorism should identify tackling terror as an important area
of their policy," he said. PTI RTJ
