Regional Commission for the Preservation of the Red Sea and Gulf


Djibouti, March 05 , SPA -- The Regional Commission for the
Preservation of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden Environment held in
Djibouti today its 12th meeting.

Prince Turki bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, General President of
Meteorology and Protection of Environment, led Saudi Arabia's
delegation to the meeting.

In a key address, he said Saudi Arabia works within the world
community to protect maritime environment and exerts strenuous
efforts in that concern, citing the meeting on world seas recently
hosted by the Kingdom.

In a statement to Saudi Arabia following the meeting, he said that
the meeting dealt with major issues of concern to the Red Sea and
Gulf of Aden as well as the commission's future programs and plans.

He said the meeting also discussed sea piracy in the Gulf of Aden and
its effect on maritime environment.

He added that the conferees endorsed the commission's plan for 2009
and provisions for excellence prize which was adopted by Al-Mukalla
meeting in 2008.
