SYRIAN PARLIAMENT SUPPORTS BROTHERLY TIES WITH INDONESIA
Jakarta, March 6 (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Syria-Indonesia Parliamentary Relations Committee (KPPSI) Sheikh Zakaria Silwayah has said Syria is very proud of its close and extraordinary relationship with Indonesia.
"Both countries' peoples are like brothers and sisters," Silwayah said in an informal meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Muzammil Basyuni in Damascus, recently.
The Syrian legislator hoped that the relations could be maintained and used maximally to boost bilateral cooperation in various fields especially economic, trade, social and cultural fields.
The meeting between Ambassador Basyuni and Silwayah was aimed at intensifying the sound bilateral relations between Indonesia and Syria, according to information on the website of the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry here on Friday.
KPPSI was one of important elements to foster the two countries, ties, the ambassador said.
The Syrian and Indonesian parliaments also had close relations. Last January 2009, the parliaments of Syria, Indonesia and Iran held a trilateral meeting to follow up a resolution of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly on the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Both Syria and Indonesia shared a similar view on and condemned the military aggression in Gaza.
The Palestinian cause is not only a problem of the Palestinian people, but it is a responsibility of the world's communities, especially the Muslims, according to the KPPSI delegation as quoted by the Indonesian embassy in Damascus.
