Commemorative stamps on oil discovery issued

Manama, May 31 (BNA): Transportation and Telecommunication Ministry and Bahrain Post produced a set of three commemorative stamps and one souvenir sheet crowned with the portrait of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the occasion of announcing the largest oil discovery in Bahrain’s History Khalij Al-Bahrain Basin – 2018. During the reign of His Majesty King Hamad and following his instructions to prioritise exploration efforts in the country, Khalij Al-Bahrain well was spudded in March 2017. The well was recognised as the world’s first offshore lateral multistage fracc’ed well. The drilling commenced after years of in-depth geological evaluation and assessment of the (Hanifa and Tuwaiq) Mountain Formations which are the source rocks for all the major oil fields in the region. On September 4 2017, the well flowed significant volumes of hydrocarbon marking the first discovery in the Kingdom since 1932. The discovery of Khalij Al-Bahrain basin is a great achievement to Bahrain. The stamps are available in all Bahrain Post branches in BD 200, 250,500, and 1.000 denominations as well as a BD 1.200 souvenir sheet and a first day cover.
