Health Minister receives breastfeeding specialist

Manama, June 4 (BNA): Health Minister Faeqa Saeed Al Saleh has received Family Medicine & Breastfeeding Consultant Dr. Zainab Abdulhadi l Mohsen. The minister congratulated the first Bahraini doctor to specialize in breastfeeding discipline on obtaining the international US board certification in this field, praising its key role in the development of breastfeeding services in Bahrain. The minister also praised Bahraini medical professionals who have attained specialized academic excellence and efficacy. The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s support to development of scientific research in various specializations to boost the quality of health services in the interest of patients. Dr. Al Mohsen pointed out that there are global and regional initiatives aimed to increase the numbers of breastfeeding moms for their infants specially in the first six months, noting the importance of such specializations in our modern age and its benefits to infants to both mothers and infants. She cited the ten steps applicable in breastfeeding and recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) including training of medical crews in health institutions on the required skills and assisting mothers in the process of breastfeeding in view of its long term benefits and to reduce the use of alternatives other than breastfeeding.
