PCB to have permanent security wing: Butt

Karachi, Mar 7 (PTI) Pakistan Cricket Board Friday
decided to set up its own permanent security wing to deal with
the terror situation following Tuesday's attack on the Sri
Lankan team near the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.

The decision to appoint a security advisor/expert and
have a permanent security wing in the Board was discussed at
the Board's Governing Council meeting Friday in which Chairman
Ejaz Butt briefed the members about the investigation being
carried out by separate agencies to find out if the security
plan for the visiting team had loopholes.

Butt told reporters that the meeting discussed in detail
the situation facing Pakistan cricket in the wake of the
terror attack and what measures needed to be taken to restore
confidence of visiting teams and Boards.

"It was felt we need to have our own security advisor and
set up a security wing to deal with security arrangements and
matters with local authorities and other Boards and the ICC,"
Butt said.

He also added that the Governing Council wanted to have
life insurance for its players after the Tuesday attack.

"Cricket is no longer safe from terrorism and we have to
face the reality. We need to have protective measures in place
to deal with every situation," Butt added.

The Board has in the past employed a manager who looked
after security and administration but never a professional
security expert to coordinate with local authorities.

Since the Board sacked its manager security and
administration after Butt took over last October, former Test
captain Wasim Bari who is director human resources was
coordinating security arrangements for the Sri Lankan team
with the Lahore police and agencies. PTI
