W KALIMANTAN TO BUILD HALL FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Pontianak, March 9 (ANTARA) - The West Kalimantan provincial administration plans to build a hall for senior citizen in the province, Vice Governor Christiandy Sanjaya said here on Monday.
"We made a proposal in 2004 to build a Graha Lansia or senior citizens' hall and we hope it can be realized as soon as possible," Sanjaya said.
He said the Graha Lansia would be a building for old people in the province to get together to socialize, develop themselves, and to kill their time by doing some sports or just chatting with each other.
"In addition, we are going to provide the old people with health service at the building," Sanjaya said, adding that lifespan of the people in the province continued to increase even to reach 67 years and the number was big enough.
Earlier, West Kalimantan branch of Indonesian Senior Citizen Institute (LLI) chairman Djawarti said the number of people with more than 60 years of age continued to increase and that it needed a serious management.
"The majority of old people in Indonesia have low income and therefore it is feared that they won't be able to meet their daily need and to lead a better life when they get older," he said.
