Tibetans to celebrate uprising day golden jubilee tomorrow

Dharamsala, Mar 9 (PTI) Tibetan spiritual leader, the
Dalai Lama, will issue an annual uprising day statement
Tuesday, the golden jubilee anniversary of the failed revolt
by Tibetans against the Chinese government 50 years ago.

After the failure of the uprising on March 10, 1959, the
Dalai Lama had fled to India and ever since has been living at
Mcleodganj, about 20 km from here in the northern Indian state
of Himachal Pradesh. Since then Tibetans celebrate the day as
national uprising day every year.

The Dalai's statement is expected to be emotional but
high in spirit with regard to the future of Tibet, sources in
the Tibetan government-in-exile said here Monday.

The 73-year-old noble laureate is also scheduled to
address the media on the occasion Tuesday afternoon.

The Tibetan temporal head Monday concluded the three-day
10th gathering of Tibetan religious leaders at his residence.

The conference was attended by the Karmapa, Prime
Minister of Tibetan government-in-exile Samdhong Rinpoche and
members of the parliament-in-exile.

Though no official rally has been organised Tuesday on
50th national uprising day, members of five Tibetan voluntary
groups - Tibetan Women's Association, National Democratic
Party of Tibet, Students of Free Tibet, Tibetan Youth Congress
and Ghu Chu Sum Movement of Tibet - would hold a march from
Dharamsala to Mcleodganj, the sources said. PTI CORR
