Minister meets UN officials

New York, July 19 (BNA): Cabinet Affairs Minister Mohamed Ibrahim Al Mattawa has met with Liu Zhenmin the United Nation (UN)'s Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, in the presence of Housing Minister Bassim Yaqoub Al Hamer, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Kingdom of Bahrain's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) National Report, at the UN Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC)'s High-Level Policy Forum in New York. The minister expressed his appreciation of the support by the UN to Bahrain during the preparation of the voluntary national report and in particular the Department of Economic and Social Affairs delegation’s’ visit to the Kingdom, praising the UN Under-Secretary-General’s efforts in the field of sustainable development. The minister expressed Bahrain’s pride in its outstanding cooperation with the United Nations to support the Kingdom's sustainable development efforts. The delegation’s participation in the Council's high-level political forum on sustainable development and submission of Bahrain’s first voluntary report contributed to highlighting the progress made by Bahrain in implementing the commitments of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs2030. The minister praised the important role of the top political forum in supporting the implementation of SDGs and exchanging experiences in this field. He reiterated the commitment of Bahrain to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, pointing out the achievements made by Bahrain regard in the fields of education, health, housing and infrastructure. He pointed out that Bahrain organised a number of events this week in cooperation with UN specialised agencies and a group of countries focused on housing and labour, which contributed to the exchange of experiences in all aspects of sustainable development. The Bahraini delegation had also met with officials of the Department of Sustainable Development, where they discussed a number of topics related to the implementation of the sustainable development goals. The minister invited the UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs to visit Bahrain for further coordination between the two sides in support of Bahrain’s efforts and to identify Bahrain's achievements in implementing SDGs on the ground. The UN official praised Bahrain’s keenness to strengthen international cooperation with the UN and specialised agencies in the field of SDGs. He also praised Bahrain's first voluntary report on its progress in this field, stressing the keenness of the Council to provide all the assistance and expertise to Bahrain in any way that would achieve further progress in for Bahrain’s goals in the field of SDGs.
