Anti-doping seminar held

Manama, July 19 (BNA): The Bahrain Olympic Committee’s (BOC) anti-doping committee organised a symposium on anti-doping for national sports federations that will take part at the Asian Games, to be held in Jakarta-Palembang, from August 18 to September 2. The symposium, presented by Dr Hussain Al Haddad, aimed to spread awareness among sports federations representatives before sending their teams for the games. Bahrain will be introducing 13 teams to the games, namely athletics, cycling, equestrian, taekwondo, football, handball, jiu jitsu, sailing, sambo, wrestling, in addition to three sports that will take place in Palembang – shooting, bowling and triathlon. Al Haddad started his symposium by focusing on the basic regulations of the Olympic Council of Asia in regard to the doping at the games. He referred to the medical exception given to athletes with chronic diseases, or receiving specific treatment, stressing that the type of treatment is necessary for the athlete and should not have a positive effect on their performance, or have any sort of impact on their health. He also presented a list of forbidden substances, which the athlete should avoid before taking part in the games. He also called on all relevant athletes and administrators to cooperate with the doping committees of the games in an attempt to avoid any complications.
