Relieving influence of tropical storm Son Tinh in Thailand
BANGKOK, July 24 (TNA) - Floods and damages in several areas in Thailand, caused by tropical storm Son Tinh over the past week, have eased, as the mitigation mission has been carried on to assist affected households.
Chayaphol Thitisak, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, under the Thai Ministry of Interior, told journalists of the update on Tuesday, saying that there are now only two provinces being affected by the tropical storm Son Tinh, including Tak and Kanchanaburi Provinces.
Chayaphol stated that there had been 19 provinces in almost all Thai regions affected by the tropical storm Son Tinh since July 17, causing flash floods, runoffs and landslides from hills.
According to the senior official, there have been more than 7,800 people in more than 2,700 households affected by the natural disasters over the past week.
The senior official stressed that he has assigned provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices in all the affected areas to work together with other relevant parties in their respective areas, including soldiers and community leaders, to speed up handing full assistance to the affected people, covering providing them with temporary shelters and necessities.
Besides, water pumps and other mitigation tools, installed in the affected areas, have continued working to dry out water from the affected areas.
The senior official suggested that affected people contact the disaster prevention and mitigation offices in their respective areas to seek more or specific assistance. (TNA)
