Oil firms from Middle East are keen to invest on LPG in Thailand

BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) -- Major energy companies from the Middle East are interested in investing in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) business in Thailand and to also export LPG to several Asian countries, said Witoon Kulcharoenwirat, Director-General of Energy Business Department. Representatives of those companies had recently discussed the issue with Mr Witoon after they found that demand for LPG in Thailand would increase after 2022, he said. They believe that there are prospects for investment in Thailand after the country liberalise LPG business while import demand for LPG would increase to over 200,000 tonnes per month, he said. Currently, Thailand has to import about 20,000 tonnes of LPG monthly. These oil firms also want to use Thailand as springboard in exporting LPG to markets in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, China, Japan and South Korea, said Mr Witoon. Four oil companies including PTT PLC, Unique Gas and Petrochemicals PLC, Siam Gas and Petrochemicals PLC and Mitsubishi Corporation are major importers of LPG to Thailand. (TNA)
