Menon, Clinton discuss Mumbai probe progress, US wants Pak to
Lalit K Jha
Washington, Mar 10 (PTI) Indian Foreign Secretary
Shivshankar Menon Tuesday discussed with US Secretary of State
Hillary Clinton the progress in the Mumbai attack probe, as
the US pressed Pakistan to do more to bring to "justice" the
people responsible for the carnage.
In the first high-level contact with the Obama
Administration, Menon, on a four-day visit to the US, met
Clinton at the State Department and briefed her about the
ongoing probe into Mumbai attacks besides exchanging
perceptions on counter-terrorism, Afghanistan and the Sri
Lankan conflict.
"The meeting lasted for about half an hour. Among key
issues discussed at the meeting included Sri Lanka,
non-proliferation, counter-terrorism including Mumbai and
Afghanistan," a State Department official told PTI.
Shortly before the Clinton-Menon meeting, the State
Department Acting Spokesman Robert Wood told reporters that
"more can be done" by Pakistan when it comes to the issues
related to Mumbai terrorist attack.
"Well, I think overall our assessment has been that
Pakistan has been providing some helpful information, but
clearly, you know, more can be done," Wood said.
"What's critical here is that we do everything in our
power to try to bring the folks who were responsible for those
attacks to justice," Wood added. PTI LKJ
